Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has described Donald Trump’s victory in Tuesday’s United States Presidential election as victory of the people over the forces of propaganda and lies.
The governor spoke when he addressed reporters in Port Harcourt, the state capital, yesterday.
According to Wike, despite the “concocted opinion polls thrown at the people daily by the mainstream media,’ the people held on to their beliefs and convictions.
He said the emergence of the Republican candidate showed that the power of the people will always triumph over the forces of propaganda and manipulation.
He noted that people of the state could easily relate with Trump’s victory because over the last two years, they had been faced with negative propaganda.
The governor, however, urged the media to report the reality on ground instead of attempting to promote vested interests through publication and broadcast of falsehood.
He congratulated the incoming U.S. president, wishing him a successful term in office.
Trump who contested on the platform of the Republican Party, will become the 45th president after a surprise victory over his Democratic rival, Hilary Clinton.
The election was preceded by media forecasts and polls that favoured the Democrats’ candidate, Hilary Clinton, a former First Lady and U.S. Secretary of State.
