President Buhari reveals why Magu was re-nominated for EFCC top job

President Muhammadu Buhari has given his reason for re-presenting the name of acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the top job.

Saraki’s senate has been told by President Buhari why it should screen Magu for EFCC chairman job.

Leadership reports that the president said he wanted the momentum in the fight against corruption to be maintained.

The president said this in a letter sent to Senate and read by Senate President Bukola Saraki. He noted that necessary “administrative steps” were taken to arrive at the decision.

Recall that reports first emerged on Friday, January 20 that President Muhammadu Buhari had re-submitted the name of Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Nigerian Senate.

The president had sent a letter to the upper house of legislature re-nominating Magu as the substantive chairman of the anti-corruption agency before he left the country on a 10-day holiday on Thursday, January 19.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Ekpo Nta has said that Nigerian is still ranked high in corruption.

Speaking at an anti-corruption summit organized by the Abia state government, Nta said Nigeria occupied the 26th position in the 2015 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.
