– An Islamic Jurist has said that members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect are not Muslims because Islam pursues peace and love
– He says since Islam is after peace and love, anyone who does otherwise and destroy fellow human being cannot be associated with Islam
– He, however, called on Nigerians to report suspicious people in their area to security agents
Nigerians have been told not to link the Boko Haram insurgents with Islam as it is believed that Islam is a religion of peace, love and goodness.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a former Grand Khadi of the Kwara Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Salihu Olountoyin-Mohammed, said that Nigerians should disabuse their minds from linking the religion with the dreaded sect.
According to him, the religion pursues peace and love, hence members of the Boko Haram sect who have been thorn in the flesh of the Nigerian government are not Muslims.
He described the insurgents as anti-Islam and are working against the interest of Islam, insisting that their practices are not part of Islamic law.
He advised Muslims to shun destructive tendencies, noting that there cannot be any meaningful development in an environment of rancor, hatred and acrimony.
The former jurist called on Muslims to embrace peace, unity, love and goodness to fellow humans irrespective of tribe, religion or whatever affiliations.
However, he advised Nigerians to be conscious of their security by reporting negative activities or suspicious movements in their domains to security operatives.
Salihu-Olountoyin called on residents in the rural communities not to harbour unknown people in their areas as part of measures to curb insurgency in the country to the barest minimum.
